22 Sep My thoughts on art making and being an artist
- A figurative artwork is a thought or an idea made visible even if the thought is just a dog, bunch of flowers, fruit, girl, place or a collection of bottles. It does not need much detail, just enough to indicate the thought, everything else is just the fashion of art.
- The style of painting should be of its own time, as in now, not times past. Other wise we are just adding to the past, there is enough there already.
- Making art should be enjoyable otherwise it is better to go out and dig the garden.
- The first inclination of the artist is to be free.
- With the last two points in mind I can say the process is up to the artist. The artist is free to use whatever tools are at hand and enjoys using, finds satisfying and just generally fun to use.
- The path to an artwork should be the most direct possible because life is short.
- Artists should never be bored, if they are then stop immediately and go to favourite armchair and read a book.
- All of the above just applies to me, but you can use whatever is helpful to you, I actually stole some of these thoughts anyway.
Below is my preliminary computer drawing, the next step is to transfer to the canvas, actually if I took my own advice above I would just have it printed to a canvas, this might be the next stage, but for now ….
