26 Nov A Painters Tribulation
I thought this painting was behind me, just a couple of coats of varnish would finish the job. The varnish dried, but something went wrong, maybe I was in a hurry. Small air bubbles had manifested on the left side. Maybe it was having to reach across and my brush strokes were a little rougher. There was only one option, I had to remove the varnish. This involved a process of applying an ammonia soaked tee shirt over the left side of the painting. I almost passed out with the stench of ammonia, I recommend following the directions here and having a mask on. I had a coffee, maybe this was a bit long than the recommended 3-5 minutes. I took the soaked tee shirt off, and realised this was the beginning of a disaster. Some of the paint had lifted too. I removed the painting from the kitchen table and noticed that some of the varnish had come off that too. This was going to take some explaining later in the day. I put the painting aside and continued with this website build. Two weeks and that was done, and now I have repainted the left hand side of painting. I think it is actually better then it was. Now just a couple of coats of varnish to do …..
