16 Dec A master bakers recipe for bread
This is a very simple recipe, simple as far as the bread is concerned. I came across this parable in Luke 13, it may be the shortest parable Jesus told;
Luke 12:20 … “To what shall I liken the kingdom of God? 21 It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened.”
While pondering what this might mean, I asked the Lord to open my eyes, this is what I feel He is saying;
The leaven here is not the leaven of the Pharisees which was hypocrisy, here it refers to the kingdom of God, and the outcome has to be positive. So what does the Lord give to us. He gives us forgiveness of our sins and in exchange of all our sins which He took to himself on the cross, He gave us His righteousness. He gave us a new spirit which is always pure, Jesus refers to this as being ‘born again’. He even seals this new creation with the stamp of His own Holy Spirit.
Now a woman took this leaven and hid it in three measures of meal. Why three measures. Numbers have meaning in the Bible, and three is the number of Manifestation. The manifestation of God is The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God said back in Genesis, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;” God made man spirit, soul and body. Man without a new spirit becomes fully corrupt and is referred to in Revelation as 666. Six is the number of man (man was created on the sixth day), the number 666 which basically says, that those without God have become, man,man and man rather than a spirit, soul and body, they have become as a brute beast. The philosophy of the world is, every thing is natural, what we see is all there, no God, what we see we become. God has not given up on the original plan, and we see it here in this parable. Jesus like the leaven of bread which fills all in all, it says so here;
Ephesians 1:22-23, And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
Now this leaven is a new spirit, it is fully righteous, a gift from Jesus, and cannot be corrupted, it is a new nature. Now the soul is not like this, it is our mind, our thinking, it has been conformed to the world, so our thinking does not always reflect our new nature;
Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind….” and Psalm 23:3 says “He restores my soul; …”
The final piece of the puzzle is the body and this is even more dramatic, we can read about it in 1 Corinthians 15, Paul sums it up here ;
1 Corinthians 15: 50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
The thing about leaven is that it works away with out any direct observation. It works and spreads until the whole amount of dough is completely leavened. Likewise the new man in Christ. We being the three measures of meal are not always aware of God’s nature being at work in us, sometimes our behaviour does not reflect our new nature. It is working all the same and the result will be glorious indeed when we see Him we will be like Him, what we behold we become. The work is of His working, there is nothing we can do to make us fully leavened it is His work so we can be confident that he will complete what He has begun.
1 John 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
A final note; We cannot make ourselves pure, it is the Hope within us that purifies us. This is great news indeed.
