Eight artist traits that I relate to;

(I find them in artists that I call mentors, I don’t know any of them, I just pore over art books or watch them talk on u tube)

  1. They make art that is just about looking, there is no narrative, there is no event illustrated or a message telling me what to think.
  2. They are free to make stuff that interests them and when that interest fades they stop and make something else.
  3. They find pleasure in ordinary things, their natural state is Joie de vivre.
  4. They have an empathy for people and an interest in today’s culture.
  5. They are optimistic.
  6. They make art because it feels like freedom.
  7. Their work seems to reflect an ease in that it makes me think “I could do this”, they also take up any technology that makes art easier or more efficient.
  8. They are happy to be themselves, their work seems to be a mixture of natural inclinations and serendipity.

My painting below just needs a varnish and I will probably sign it on the back.
